These pages contain the private journal of Steve Kenney. As you can see from the picture above, he looks like a relatively average guy. He was diagnosed with Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma of the parotid gland in February of 1993. He endured multiple surgeries and radiation treatments over the next 7 years. He then entered a new phase of his treatment regimen.
The pages cover the months of March, April, and May of 2000. During this time Steve underwent daily administration of chemotherapy. He kept a log of his journey on an AdCC support group. He did this not necessarily for himself, but for the benefit of others on the group.
I was a part of that group in 2000, reading his daily journal entries. To see him writing those entries each day, while he was undergoing a rigorous medical treatment; was a true testament to his selfless attitude and personal strength. To me, he is not just an 'average guy'.
We hope that his journal gives you an insight into the life of a cancer survivor and the road that they travel to remain a survivor:
